The Urban Thinkers Summit was a meeting of minds at Studio X on the topic of urbanism. We were interested in the topic of Sustainable Urban Development in all contexts because as stated in UN Habitat's 2012 Manifesto for Cities "the battle for a more sustainable future will be won or lost in cities."
50 young people interested in social impact had small group discussions with mentors (professionals, academics, experts) on various sustainable urbanization issues-- including gentrification, urban planning, urban art, social inclusion, urban sustainability. After learning from mentors in the field, our participants completed a design thinking workshop and had to design an urban project from start to finish. After presenting their work, one group won a $600 grant from the US Consulate to complete a refugee women’s integration project.
